Reclaimed , or recycled wood is a specialty of ours at Through the Woods and we carry a large variety of samples of this product in our Tampa showroom. WHERE DOES IT COME FROM?
Reclaimed wood is salvaged from old buildings, such as old barns and farm structures from rural areas, factories and hotels in cities, and pilings from seaside shipping ports. All of the wood rescued is from buildings that are slated for demolition and eventually landfills, a horrible waste of our planet's resources. This wood has already been through at least a century's worth of seasonal expansion and contraction cycles, so it is more stable than new wood.
In the early years of our country, the common method for timbering was to cut trees with axes and drag logs with oxen or mule teams to the riverbanks where some of the densest, heaviest logs rolled off the rafts during the float trip to the mills. Today these logs are recovered by divers and milled into wood flooring. With its color, character and patina, river recovered wood is a beautifully behaved building material that only gets better with time.

YOUR MANY CHOICES IN BEAUTIFUL RECLAIMED WOOD FLOORING
Many species are available with a wide range of color and grain variation. The chosen wood can also be stained to change its color.
Reclaimed wood is appropriate in a formal setting, when you wish to create an ambiance of elegant permanence. The use of a product with more character, for example, showing more knotholes, or one that is perhaps more roughly cut, with the saw marks left on the surface, will enhance the casual look of a contemporary home, or contribute to your weekend cabin's wonderfully rustic feel.
We can sand and finish the raw wood after we install it in your home or, you can use a prefinished product which has the stain and finish applied at the factory/mill.

The three main styles of Antique wood flooring are:
Strip flooring is available in widths of 2 1/2 " and 2 3/4 ". Strip flooring ranges in thickness from 5/16 of an inch to 3/4 of an inch. This is your typical flooring that is found in older houses and gymnasiums here in Tampa Bay.
Wide Plank flooring is offered in a variety of widths from 3" to 12". Boards of differing widths can be combined to form an interesting floor. Plank flooring material has a thickness of 1/2" or 3/4".
Parquet flooring is made up of geometrical patterns composed of individual wood slats held in place by mechanical fastening or an adhesive. Parquet can be purchased as a precut pattern, or, we can create a custom parquet for you.
